Shattering preconceptions of punk and metal, Avenged Sevenfold blazes a bold new path with its debut major label album, City of Evil. Fusing punk with melody, metal intensity with an adventurous spirit, the drama and darkness of A7X moves effortlessly from his powerful vocal punch to thick cascading melodies, from loud and fast to epic. Influenced by everyone from Pantera, Metallica and Iron Maiden to Bad Religion, Misfits, Guns 'N Roses, prog-metal and experimental rock, Avenged Sevenfold seeks its own musical vengeance with City of Evil.

Yngwie J. Malmsteen

Biography

Early life

Malmsteen was born into a musical family in Stockholm. Yngwie was the youngest child in the family. On September 18, 1970, at age seven, he saw a television news broadcast reporting on the death of Jimi Hendrix which caused him to become obsessed with the guitar. The news segment showed only a clip of Jimi Hendrix burning his guitar, but no actual songs. To quote his official website, "The day Jimi Hendrix died, the guitar-playing Yngwie was born".

At the age of 10 he took his mother's maiden name Malmsteen as his surname, and Anglicised his given name Yngve to "Yngwie". Yngwie (pronounced ing-vay") means "young Viking man" in Swedish.

Malmsteen was in his teens when he first encountered the music of the 19th century violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini, whom he cites as his biggest classical influence. Through his emulation of Paganini concerto pieces on guitar, Malmsteen developed a prodigious technical fluency. Malmsteen also cites Jimi Hendrix, Brian May of Queen, Steve Hackett of Genesis, Uli Jon Roth, and Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple as influences.

Malmsteen broke new ground and contributed to the evolution of modern rock guitar, particularly with his embracing of modal progressions and classically-influenced techniques not widely used in rock music. He is often credited, along with Randy Rhoads, with increasing the popularity of the neoclassical heavy metal genre and inspiring a new generation of electric guitarists including Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, and Tony MacAlpine.

1980's

In late 1982 Malmsteen was brought to the USA by Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records, who had heard a demo tape of Malmsteen's playing. He had brief engagements with Steeler, for their self-titled album of 1983, then Alcatrazz, for their 1983 debut No Parole From Rock N' Roll, and the 1984 live album Live Sentence. Malmsteen released his first solo album Rising Force in 1984. His album was really meant to be an instrumental side-project of Alcatrazz, but it contained vocals, and Malmsteen left Alcatrazz soon after the release of Rising Force. It was a success; it was the winner of Guitar Player Magazine's Best Rock Album and was also nominated for a Grammy for 'Best Rock Instrumental', achieving #60 on the Billboard album chart. This was followed by Marching Out (1985). Jeff Scott Soto filled vocal duties on these initial albums.

His third album, Trilogy, featuring the vocals of Mark Boals, was released in 1986. In 1987, yet another singer, former Rainbow vocalist Joe Lynn Turner joined his band. That year, Malmsteen was in a serious car accident, smashing his Jaguar XKE into a tree and putting him in a coma for a week. Nerve damage to his right hand was reported. In a tragic twist of fate, during his time in the hospital, Malmsteen's mother died from cancer.

In the summer of 1988 he released his fourth album, Odyssey. Odyssey would be his biggest hit album, mainly because of its first single "Heaven Tonight". Shows in Russia during the Odyssey tour were recorded, and released in 1989 as his fifth album Trial By Fire: Live in Leningrad. The concert in Leningrad was the largest ever by a western artist in the Soviet Union.

In late 1988, Malmsteen's signature Fender Stratocaster guitar was released, making him and Eric Clapton the first artists to be honored by Fender.

Malmsteen's "Neo-classical" style of metal became moderately popular during the mid 1980s, with notable contemporaries such as Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore all reaching prominence after Yngwie. However, only Paul Gilbert claimed Yngwie as an influence, with MacAlpine coming to the neoclassical/shred field by applying his classical piano training to his guitar playing and Moore arriving at a similar style because he shared Yngwie's major influences, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Al Di Meola, American jazz fusion great of Return to Forever fame.

1990's

In the early 1990s Malmsteen released the albums Eclipse (1990), The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection (1991), Fire and Ice (1992) and The Seventh Sign (1994).

Despite his early success, and continuous success in Europe and Asia, by the early 1990s stylings of 1980s heavy metal had become unfashionable in the USA. It was quickly displaced by the Seattle grunge movement, where technical ability was replaced by simpler songs.

In the 1990s, Malmsteen continued to record and release albums under the Japanese record label Pony Canyon, and maintained a devoted following from some fans in Europe and Japan, and to a lesser extent in the USA. In 2000, he once again acquired a contract with a US record label, Spitfire, and released his 1990s catalog into the US market for the first time, including what he regards as his masterpiece, Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra, recorded with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague.

In 1993, Malmsteen's mother-in-law, who was opposed to his engagement with her daughter, had him arrested for threatening her with a shotgun and holding her daughter against her will [1]. The charges against Malmsteen were quickly dropped when he denied that the incident ever occurred.

2000's

After the release of War to End All Wars in 2000, singer Mark Boals left the band. Yngwie went on tour with former Ark vocalist Jorn Lande. Due to various tensions on tour, Jorn left before the recording of Yngwie's next album, Attack!!. He was replaced by former Rainbow vocalist Doogie White. White's vocals were well received by fans, and it seems that he has become a permanent member of the band.

In 2003, Malmsteen joined Joe Satriani and Steve Vai as part of the G3 supergroup. Yngwie made two rare guest appearances on keyboardist Derek Sherinian's albums Black Utopia (2003), and Blood of the Snake (2006) where Yngwie is heard on the same tracks as Al Di Meola and Zakk Wylde.

Yngwie released Unleash the Fury in 2005. As stated in an issue of "Guitar World" magazine, he titled this album after the infamous 'airline incident', which occurred in a flight to Japan for the 'Odyssey' tour. He was drunk and behaving obnoxiously, until he fell asleep and was roused by a woman pouring a jug of iced water on him. Enraged, he shouted, "You've released the fucking fury!" The audio from this incident was caught on tape (http://www.blabbermouth.net/yngwie_tokyo_flight.mp3) by a fellow band member.

He is married to April and has a son named Antonio after Antonio Vivaldi. A noted Ferrari enthusiast, he owns a black 1985 308 GTS and a red 1962 250 GTO. In recent years, Yngwie has given up both smoking and drinking. The Malmsteen family lives in Miami, Florida.

Wintersun

History

The first Wintersun album was supposed to be a side project of Ensiferum member Jari Mäenpää. However, the Ensiferum Europe tour was unfortunately scheduled for the same time with recordings of Wintersun. Mäenpää was forced to choose between his booked recording time for Wintersun and Ensiferum; he chose Wintersun and was forced to leave Ensiferum behind. The Album was produced solely by Jari Mäenpää himself, with only a session drummer (Kai Hahto) to perform the drums and percussion. Jari performed the vocals, bass, guitars and synth alone. On September 13, 2004 self-titled Wintersun album was released through Nuclear Blast Records.

According to their website, the band started to record their next full-length release called Time at Sonic Pump Studios in May of 2006. The mixing was meant to take place in the autumn of 2006, but had to be delayed. The new mixing date is set for May 2007, and the release date of the new album is now planned to be somewhere in August 2007. The band is currently on tour across Europe with Viking/melodic death metal band Amon Amarth, and viking metal band Tyr.

James LaBrie

Kevin James LaBrie (born May 5, 1963) is a Canadian vocalist who is best known for being the lead singer in progressive metal band Dream Theater.

He was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada and started singing and playing drums at age 5. By his mid-teens, LaBrie was a member of several bands as a singer and/or drummer, and in 1981, at age 18, he moved to Toronto to further his musical pursuits. He currently still resides in Toronto, with his wife Karen, daughter Chloe, and son Chance.

After stints with various bands, he became the vocalist for glam rock band Winter Rose, who released a self-titled album in 1987.

In 1991 he learned that a relatively unknown American progressive metal band called Dream Theater was in the market for a singer, so he sent down a tape and was quickly flown to New York for a full audition. The trial went well, and he was chosen ahead of 200 other hopefuls to fill the full-time vocalist position in that band.

Having two Johns (Myung and Petrucci) in the band already, and with another Kevin in the band, LaBrie dropped his first name and adopted the stage name James LaBrie.

In 1993, he was considered to replace departed Iron Maiden vocalist, Bruce Dickinson.(Dream Theater went on to record Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" at the BBC radio studios with Bruce Dickinson, as well as perform an Iron Maiden medley live with Bruce in Los Angeles.) James has since had a significant impact on the vocal melodies on each Dream Theater album, but continues to have little input into the musical side of Dream Theater. To date he has written lyrics for at least one song on each album (excluding Images and Words) Dream Theater has released with him in the band.

On December 29, 1994, while vacationing in Cuba, LaBrie suffered a severe case of food poisoning and while vomiting, ruptured his vocal cords. He saw three throat specialists who all said there was nothing they could do for him and the only thing he could do was rest his voice as much as possible. However, on January 12, 1995, and against doctor's orders, he was on the "Awake" tour in Japan with his voice far from normal. James has said he didn't feel vocally "normal" until at least 1997.

His musical inspiration comes from many different genres, including such artists as Metallica, Ludwig van Beethoven, Nat King Cole, Queen and Sting, whose inspiration, according to LaBrie, is shown on Dream Theater's latest release, "Octavarium".

Throughout his career with Dream Theater, he has lent his voice to many other artists' records as well as tribute albums to some influential artists. He has appeared on many Trent Gardner releases (including Leonardo: The Absolute Man and Explorer's Club), as well as appearing on albums by such artists as Ayreon (The Human Equation, released 2004), Shadow Gallery, Tim Donohue and Frameshift.

With Matt Guillory and Mike Mangini, LaBrie has released three solo albums under various names (Mullmuzzler, James LaBrie's Mullmuzzler, and simply James LaBrie). His latest, Elements of Persuasion, was released in March, 2005. A fourth solo album is widely rumored to be in the works.

Since 2004, LaBrie has been working with the True Symphonic Rockestra project, along with Thomas Dewald, Vladimir Grishko, Dirk Ulrich, Christopher Jesidero, Sandro Martinez, Paul Mayland, Marvin Philippi, and Igor Marin. Their 2006 album, TSR, has been finished since early July, with Brainworx and Marinsound working on a release.

LaBrie is also a featured vocalist on Henning Pauly's "Babysteps" project released in 2006, LaBrie plays the role of the arrogant doctor.

Dream Theater History

Dream Theater is a progressive metal band formed by three students at the Berklee College of Music in 1985. In the 21 years since their inception, they have become one of the most commercially successful progressive bands since the height of progressive rock in the mid-1970s, despite being relatively unknown in mainstream pop/rock circles. Their two highest selling albums are 1992's Images and Words, which was awarded a gold record and is consistently regarded as a seminal progressive metal release, although it reached only #61 on the Billboard 200 charts; and 2005's Octavarium which reached #36 on the Billboard 200.

The band is well known for the technical proficiency of each instrumentalist, winning many awards from music magazines. They are highly respected by many of rock and metal's biggest names, leading to collaborations between Dream Theater members and many other well known musicians. In a famous example, guitarist John Petrucci was named as the third player on the G3 tour with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, following in the footsteps of Eric Johnson, Robert Fripp, Yngwie Malmsteen and other influential guitarists.

History

1985 - 1990
Dream Theater was formed in 1985 by guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung and drummer Mike Portnoy while studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Kevin Moore, a high school band-mate of Petrucci's, was recruited to play keyboards and Chris Collins was enlisted as vocalist.

The quintet settled on the name Majesty for their newly-formed group (a name inspired by Portnoy's description of the closing section of "Bastille Day" by Rush), and the three Berklee attendees dropped out to concentrate on the band.

Their first major recording project was The Majesty demos, a collection of ideas and demos that were released in 1986. The initial run of 1,000 sold out within six months, and dubbed copies of the cassette spread quickly through the progressive metal scene all over the world.

However, in November 1986, after a few months of writing and performing together, Chris Collins left the band due to creative differences with the other members. After a year of trying to find a replacement, Charlie Dominici, who was far older and more experienced than anyone else in the band, successfully auditioned for the group. With the stability that Dominici's appointment brought to Majesty, they began playing more shows in and around the New York City area, and gained a considerable amount of exposure for a band that had not yet released an album.

Shortly after Dominici joined the band, they were forced to change their name when another band named Majesty threatened legal action. Various names were contemplated until Portnoy's father suggested the name Dream Theater, the name of a now demolished movie theater in Monterey, California.

They signed their first record contract, with Mechanic (a division of MCA), in 1988 and set out to record their debut album.

When Dream and Day Unite was released in 1989 to far less fanfare than was anticipated by anyone in the band [citation needed]. Mechanic ended up breaking the majority of the financial promises they had made to the band before signing their contract, so they were restricted to playing gigs around NYC to promote the release. The promotional tour for the album consisted of just five concerts, all of which were in New York or Rhode Island.

After the fourth of these gigs, Dominici was fired because of personal and creative differences between him and the rest of the band. Shortly after, however, Marillion asked Dream Theater to open for them at a gig at the Ritz in New York, so Dominici was given the opportunity to perform one last time. It would be two more years before Dream Theater had another full-time singer.

1991 - 1994
Following Dominici's firing, Dream Theater fought successfully to be released from their contract with Mechanic, and set about auditioning singers and writing material for their next album. In the time until they had secured a replacement vocalist, they wrote the majority of the music for what would become their second album, Images and Words.

In their search for a new singer they auditioned over 200 people, among them former Fates Warning front man John Arch, but all were turned down for various reasons. In 1991 a tape arrived from Canadian band Winter Rose's singer Kevin James LaBrie, who was immediately flown to New York for a proper audition. After a short jam session he was hired as full-time singer, and started using his middle name, James, as his first to avoid confusion with Kevin Moore.

For the next few months, the band resumed gigging and worked on vocal parts for all the music that they had written to that point. ATCO Records (now EastWest) signed Dream Theater to a seven album contract on the strength of their reputation and a three song demo (later made available as The ATCO Demos through the Dream Theater fan club).

The first album to be released under their new record contract was Images and Words in 1992, the first of many Dream Theater albums to be recorded at BearTracks Studios. The song "Pull Me Under" gained a lot of radio airplay, and as a result the label commissioned a video clip for its promotion, which had moderate MTV rotation.

The success of "Pull Me Under", combined with relentless touring throughout the U.S. and Japan, helped Images and Words to achieve gold record certification in the States and platinum in Japan. The album received much critical acclaim and is seen as a landmark album in the development of progressive metal. The album is still the most commercially successful of all Dream Theater's releases.

A tour of Europe followed in 1993, which included a show at London's famed Marquee jazz club. That show was recorded and released as Live at the Marquee, Dream Theater's first official live album, and a video compilation of their Japanese concerts (mixed in with some documentary-style footage of the off-stage portion of the tour) was released as Images and Words: Live in Tokyo.

Keen to work on fresh material, Dream Theater retreated to the studio in May 1994. The 1994 sessions were the first in which Dream Theater as a whole wrote music together that was specifically for an album, with Images and Words being entirely composed without a vocalist and with an uncertain future as far as recording was concerned.

Awake was released in October 1994. It featured a distinctly heavier sound than the band's previous releases, which caused criticism among long time fans, but was still well-received by critics and gained Dream Theater a new breed of fans. Shortly before the album was mixed, Moore announced to the rest of the band that he wished to concentrate on his own musical interests and would be quitting Dream Theater. This rocked a band that had enjoyed just two years of stability after a tumultuous first half-decade, but Moore was no longer interested in the life of a touring musician nor the brand of progressive metal Dream Theater performed, so the two parties went their separate ways.

As a result of that news, the band had to scramble to find a replacement keyboardist instead of jumping head-first into touring mode.

Jordan Rudess, an up-and-coming keyboardist who was relatively unknown in rock music circles to that point, was invited to play a trial performance with Dream Theater in the hopes that he would join the band. The gig, in Burbank, California, went well but Rudess decided to accept an invitation from The Dixie Dregs to perform with them instead. Derek Sherinian was brought on as a hired gun, and by the conclusion of the Awake promotional tour Sherinian was Dream Theater's new full-time keyboardist.

1995 - 1998
After a petition from fans to EastWest, the group recorded their previously unreleased song "A Change of Seasons", which had been written in 1989 and was originally to appear on Images and Words, and distributed it as an EP with a collection of live cover tracks. After a short run of small "one-off" concerts to promote the EP, Dream Theater entered the studio once more to write their next album.

In all, almost two CDs worth of material were written during the sessions including a 20 minute long follow-up to the Images and Words song "Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper". The label, however, did not allow the release of a double album because they felt that a 140-minute record would not be digestible by the general public, so half the songs had to be cut.

In addition to, and as a function of, pressuring the band into adopting a more mainstream sound, EastWest recruited writer/producer Desmond Child to work with Petrucci on re-writing the lyrics to his demo "You Or Me". The whole band substantially reworked the music to that song, and it appeared on the album as "You Not Me" in a form that was barely reminiscent of the original.

The material that made it onto the album proper was released as Falling Into Infinity, which received a mixed reception from traditional Dream Theater fans. Despite the album containing some very progressive-sounding songs, tracks like "Hollow Years" and "You Not Me" prompted some to believe it was the dawn of a new, mainstream-sounding Dream Theater, just as the release of Empire had previously heralded the same shift for Queensrÿche [citation needed]. The album was both a critical and commercial disappointment but in recent years the album has been rehabilitated to an extent, and interest was rekindled when Portnoy indicated that the unused songs - including more traditionally progressive cuts such as "Raise the Knife" - would be released through Portnoy's YtseJam Records.

During the European leg of the Falling Into Infinity world tour, two shows were recorded for a live album entitled Once In A LIVEtime, in France and The Netherlands. The album was released at around the same time as the video 5 Years in a LIVEtime, which chronicled the time from when Kevin Moore left the band right up to the Falling Into Infinity promotional tour.

In 1997, Magna Carta Records' Mike Varney invited Portnoy to assemble a progressive 'supergroup' to work on an album, which would become the first in a long string of side-projects for the members of Dream Theater. The lineup that was eventually settled on consisted of Portnoy on drums, Petrucci on guitar, Tony Levin of King Crimson on bass, and Jordan Rudess, who had finished with the Dixie Dregs by that time, on keyboards. The band assumed the name Liquid Tension Experiment, and would act as a medium through which Portnoy and Petrucci could once again court Rudess to join them in Dream Theater. They extended an invitation for him to join them in 1999, and he accepted the offer to become the third full-time Dream Theater keyboardist. Unfortunately for Sherinian, this meant that he was out of a job, though he saw his axing as a positive and would move on to have a very successful solo career

1999 - Present
Armed with yet another new member, Dream Theater entered BearTracks Studio once again to write and record their next album. Perhaps as a response to the backlash over Falling Into Infinity, this time their record label gave the band complete freedom with their music. The follow-up to "Metropolis Part 1" of Images and Words, which was written during the Falling Into Infinity sessions (but not used on that album), was taken off the shelf as the first composition for them to work on.

They decided to rewrite and expand the 20-minute song with a fresh, new band member into a complete concept album, with the story revolving around themes such as reincarnation, murder and betrayal. To avoid stirring up the fan base, a tight veil of secrecy enveloped the writing and recording process. The only things fans knew before its release were a track list that had been leaked against the band's wishes, and a release date. They knew nothing of the title, the music, or even the fact that it would be a concept album. In 1999, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory was released to high critical acclaim. It was hailed as Dream Theater's masterpiece by many fans, and critics alike, despite only reaching #73 on the charts. Scenes From A Memory is often compared to Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime, another seminal progressive metal concept album released a decade earlier.

A world tour that followed led the band into more countries than they had ever toured before, taking over a year to complete. For one extra special show, at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, actor Kent Broadhurst was hired to play the role of the hypnotherapist, and gospel choir led by Theresa Thomason, (also present on the MP2 album as guest singers) was enlisted to play in certain sections of the show. This show, the last North American date of the tour, was recorded for the band's first DVD release. After many technical delays, Dream Theater fans finally got their hands on the DVD, entitled Metropolis 2000, in early 2001. Shortly after its release, the band announced that an audio version of the concert, with the entire four-hour long set list (much of which had to be cut from the DVD to save space), would be released shortly thereafter.

The cover for the CD version of the concert, titled Live Scenes From New York, showed one of Dream Theater's early logos (the Images And Words-era burning heart, modeled on the Sacred Heart) modified to show an apple instead of the heart, as an allusion to the Big Apple nickname given to New York City. In the flames above the apple was shown the New York City skyline, including the twin towers of the World Trade Center. In an unfortunate coincidence, the album was released on September 11, 2001 - the same day as the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The album was immediately recalled, but many copies were snapped up by Dream Theater collectors as a very rare piece of Dream Theater's history. It was re-released with revised artwork a short time later.

Dream Theater once again entered BearTracks Studios to record their sixth studio album. Four years after they first petitioned EastWest to allow them to release a double album, they finally got their chance with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. The first disc consisted of five tracks of 6-14 minutes in length, and the second disc was devoted entirely to the 42-minute title track, split into 8 parts, which is to date the longest song Dream Theater have written.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence ended up being received very well by critics and the press. It was the most publicized of Dream Theater's albums since Awake, debuting on the Billboard charts at #46 and the Billboard Internet charts at #1. Some fans, however, missed the early band's complexity that began to diminish from their compositions, being replaced with prolonged virtuoso solos.

Throughout the next year and a half they toured the world once more, with an expanded live show including a select few special "album cover" gigs (see Cover songs section, below), in which they played Metallica's Master of Puppets and Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast in their entirety.

At the completion of their promotional tour and various side projects, Dream Theater entered the studio to record what would become Train of Thought, their heaviest album to that point, written in a mere three weeks. The album was a critical success but it had a polarizing effect, alienating a fair proportion of Dream Theater's fans who enjoyed the traditional progressive rock influence from bands such as Yes or King Crimson more than Dream Theater's modern muses like Tool and Metallica. Regardless, it expanded the band's fan base into new territory, that of mainstream heavy metal and alternative metal.

Their next move was to release another live CD/DVD combination, this time recorded at the famous Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan on their Train of Thought world tour. Live at Budokan was released on October 5, 2004, and further propelled Dream Theater's reputation as one of the premier live acts in progressive metal.

Upon the completion of their Train of Thought promotional tour in 2004, Dream Theater entered the Hit Factory studios in New York City to record their eighth album. As it turned out, they would be the last group ever to record in that famous studio, and after they wrapped up their final session, the lights were turned off at the studio forever.

The latest album, Octavarium, was released on June 7, 2005 and took the band's sound in yet another new direction. Among its eight songs is a continuation of Portnoy's "Alcoholics Anonymous" suite ("The Root of All Evil", steps 6-7 in the 12-step plan), as well as the title track itself, an epic rivaling A Change of Seasons and which spans several musical styles in its 24-minute running time. Like nearly every album by the band, Octavarium has received mixed reviews from fans and been the subject of spirited debate. In particular, some fans thought that the band wore its musical influences too prominently on their sleeves (e.g. "Never Enough" has been compared to Muse's Stockholm Syndrome and the relatively radio-friendly "I Walk Beside You," which combines a sound reminiscent of U2 and Coldplay. Octavarium was the last album under their seven-album deal with Elektra Records, and future recording/distribution contracts have yet to be determined. However, Dream Theater does plan to begin work on their next album in fall 2006.

Dream Theater toured extensively throughout 2005 and 2006 to celebrate their 20th Anniversary as a band, including a headlining spot on Gigantour. During a show on August 2, 2005 in Dallas, the band paid tribute to Pantera's late guitar virtuoso Dimebag Darrell by performing Cemetery Gates as an encore; what made the performance even more remarkable was the unexpected appearance of fellow musicians Russell Allen, Burton C. Bell and Dave Mustaine, who joined the band on stage to perform parts of the song.

Dream Theater later departed from Gigantour and continued their own series of concerts; including a show at the famous Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 1st, 2006 with "the Octavarium Orchestra". The show was recorded for a CD/DVD called Score, released on August 29, 2006 through Rhino Records

CORPSEFUCKING ART

BIOGRAPHY

The band was formed in Rome in 1994. With the first line-up (Max - gurgling, Andrea - guitars, Fabio - bass, Marco - drums) and a different name during that wintertime, Enthrallment (this was the name of the band) recorded their first demo called "Eulogy Of Burning Christ". The official sound was a slow and brutal death-metal influenced by Immolation and Incantation. This demo is sold-out.

Thanks to the Cryptic Soul Productions, Enthrallment realized the 7" "Accursed In Divinity". This contained 2 tracks. A true masterpiece of brutality. But the sound contained in the new tracks were definitely more brutal oriented and strange. As the musical direction was no longer the same as the beginning, it was useless to keep the old name. The one chosen for this new form of madness was "Corpsegod". With a different name but same line-up, they recorded in '95 the mini CD "Opinion About Sorrow" for Torture Records. The mini CD contained 5 tracks of original and strange brutal death-metal. Ultra-brutal riffing with techno and industrial parts, splatter movies and a sound to the limit of human endurance make "Opinion About Sorrow" a really vanguard record compared to the others on the death-metal scene.

In the meantime the passion for the ultra-brutal death-metal in the band is getting' higher and higher. The old line-up dies to create a new band totally devoted to brutal death-metal without compromises. A new band was born then, Corpsefucking Art. From the old line-up Andrea and Max are still in. After recording a 2 track promo with the new guys (Massimo - guitar, Marcello - drums, Edo - bass) and the tracks "Molesting The Corpse" for the underground splatter movie "Sick-o-pathic" soundtrack, Corpsefucking Art (aka C.F.A.) record their debut CD named "A Puzzle Of Flesh " for the Italian label Sterminio Productions. Nine tracks of blasting ultra-brutal death-metal without mercy. An inhuman voice and a blasting riffing make "A Puzzle Of Flesh" a CD that every U.S. brutal death-metal maniac must get.

In 2001 the line-up changes again. Andrea stills in and works with Marco - bass, Stuart - drums. They recorded a new split CD with Goretrade: Zombiecronomicon for the Coagulated Records.

After being offered a contract by Forever Underground Corpsefucking Art entered the studio to record their new full length "Splatter Deluxe".

MIND SNARE is a death metal band born in Turin (North of Italy) in 1989: The Oldest one and the first ever to play with KREATOR, MALEVOLENT CREATION, VADER, OPPRESSOR, DISGORGE (USA),etc...

MIND SNARE’ s production started with 7 demo tapes during its first 10 years of activity. After 3 deals signed with rip off labels in 1999 they self produced their first MCD "HEGEMONY". Their music was so successful that only 6 months after its released, PSYCHIC SCREAM RECORDS decided to re-released it with 2 live bonus tracks.

In 2001 PSYCHIC SCREAM produced their 2nd album "HATEFUL ATTITUDE" and TERROR FROM HELL rec. released 7" "BROKEN PROMISES". In 2002 MIND SNARE signed for FOREVER UNDERGROUND RECORDS: this co-operation saw the birth of their 3rd CD "THE NOBLE ANCESTRY", in 2003.

Each released had a great consideration from Italian and foreign magazines / webzines, and each one was supported by a non-stop live activity: MIND SNARE performances are always an explosion of violence and brutality, mixed with a satanic and blasphemous atmosphere.

"FROM BLOOD TO DUST", their new album that includes as bonus tracks, the complete "Hegemony" CD, now out of print, was released in January 2005.

PROPHECY

BIOGRAPHY

Prophecy began in 1991 in Shreveport, LA. James Parks II (guitars/vocals) met a couple of other musicians and started jamming together, then decided to form a band. James chose PROPHECY as the name.

After playing in the Shreveport area for over 3 years, the 4 members decided to part ways because they didn't want to get any heavier than the "Thrash/Speed Metal" style that PROPHECY was at that time. About 6 months passed before James met Joe "Boogie" Dunlap (guitars) and they decided to move to the D/FW, Texas area to reform PROPHECY as BRUTAL DEATH METAL in 1995. Phil Holland was brought in for lead guttural duty.

PROPHECY has since gone through line up changes to complete the re-formation. PROPHECY began writing new material for their debut 5-song EP "It Shall Come to Pass", which was self-released on cassette in March 1996. In March of 1997 PROPHECY self-released 2-song promo cassette for promotion of their debut full length CD, "Foretold...Foreseen", which was released by Corpse Gristle Records in October 1998. "It Shall Come To Pass" has been officially re-released on PROPHECY Records & Corpse Gristle Records as of September 3rd, 2001.

After a few lineup changes Billy Bonsal was added on drums as of September 2000 and Burt Buchanan was added on bass as of November 2001. This is the current lineup as it is today. Now with a complete and secure lineup it was time to start working on their second release "Our Domain".

Prophecy was now ready to record and began looking for a new label. After several offers from different labels the choice was made to sign to Forever Underground Records. After signing the band Prophecy was immediately sent into the studio to record. After almost a month in the studio "Our Domain" was finished. "Our Domain" will bring Prophecy worlwide attention. They have truly evolved over the years as musicians. This CD is much tighter, more technical, more brutal and has a much better production than anything they have ever done before.

PUTRILAGE

BIOGRAPHY

1999...out of the ashes of a band named Carrion, former members, Llamar Vasquez_Guitar, Anthony Guerrero_Guitar, Chris Salazar_Drums, with the addition of Chris Herrera_Bass, & (ex-Maleficent vocalist) Aaron Mendiola formed a new band named Putrilage in the Seguin, Texas area.

With this line-up the band entered Sonic Deli Studios to record a 4 song demo called "Gorenography" only 7 months after forming. 500 copies of this demo were made, and nearing the summer of 2000, this demo was completely sold out.

Then in March '00, Putrilage was signed to Texas based Corpse Gristle Records. In September '00, the band entered the label's own studio, Triple Sick Studios to record thier debut full length CD, "Devouring the Gutted". Soon after the recording, bassist Chris Herrera was replaced by Dan Briseno. Since the recording of this CD, the business relationship between the label and the band went a bit sour. So in August '01, Putrilage split with the label now known as TXDM Underground, and was in search for a new label. Indiana based Forever Underground was the label chosen. The original recording of the debut full length was finally released in February 2002.After several attempts to find new members and the eventual reunion of all the original members the band was unable to put aside there differences and has broken up and will likely never reform. The decision was made to not repress 'Devouring The Gutted' the bands only release. However, due to demand and people asking for it the re-issue of this masterpiece will again be released in a limited pressing of 1000 in April 2005. No further releases or repress are scheduled in the future.

FLESHTIZED

BIOGRAPHY

The members who comprised Fleshtized initially came together during the late Spring of 1996 with the intent of creating fast, technical and intense music. After releasing two really well promoted demos including 1998's classic "Tower of Pain" the band decided to set their sights on something a little more worthy of the musical prowess they had displayed thus far and released their own professionally recorded and packaged MCD entitled "Divide and Conquer". This release, which sold out of its pressing of 1,000 within just a few short months, gained them the noteriety that caughtthe attention of Michael Andersen at Denmark's Mighty Music label. During the month of October 2000 negotiations were made and a deal was signed in order to release the Fleshtized debut full length, "Here, Among Thorns". This is by and large the best Fleshtized recording to date and it is set to gain them the recognition as one of the most Brutal and devestaing bands on the planet.

Now with the backing of a well established label, excellent production by studio wizard, Jacob Hansen, supreme artwork by Nikolaj Borg and an incredible layout by Bjarke Ahlstrand, the music of Fleshtized will be forever ingrained in the eyes and ears of all True Death Metal fans. Fleshtized has never been a stranger to the live front either. Aside from recording memorable and amazingly fast music, Fleshtized have taken the stage well over 130 times throughout 10 different states. Most of these shows were headlining gigs, but many were also done in support of well known bands like Morbid Angel, Vader, Nile, Immolation, Incantation, Monstrosity, Angel Corpse, Krisiun, Dying Fetus, Deeds of Flesh, Fleshgrind, Internal Bleeding, Cephalic Carnage and Goatwhore to name a few.Their list of shows also includes many large scale festivals including two appearances at The St. Louis Slaugherfest series, two appearances at The Ohio Death Fest, The Atlanta Midtown Murderfest and The 2000 Milwaukee Metalfest. Long known for the intensity of their shows, Fleshtized is also known for pulling off their material flawlessly. They have been welcomed back time and again by clubs throughout their circuit as they have exemplified time and again mindblowing performances backed by sincere professional attitudes.

Numerous compilations have featured the music of Fleshtized including demo comps released by the editors of widely published fanzines and fans alike. The two most crucial compilations were the multi-band c.d.'s released by Mortal Coil and Razorback Records. Each of these discs had a pressing of around 1,500 and have been played on Metal radio broadcasts around the globe. The comp. Most recently put together will be the Dwell Records Tribute to Cannibal Corpse which will feature Fleshtized performing the classic "Hammer Smashed Face". After playing this song live for several years the band felt it only necessary to provide their fans with a lasting memory of their version.

The approximate release date for "Here, Among Thorns" is sometime in mid-September. This will feature all of the Fleshtized songs that their fans have come to know through their live sets such as "Clash Dimension", "Feral Earth", "Bound in Unity" and the title track. There will also be included three solo pieces featuring the virtuoso guitar techniques of guitarist/vocalist Casey Robertson and the melodic basswork of Garth Lovvorn. Above all look for the 9 songs on the album containing Robertson's powerful vocal delivery and his range of extraordinairy range of guitar techniques coupled with Lovvorn's vicious basswork and Gary White's full speed blast and double bass attack. This is no doubt a masterpiece to behold for all fans of Real Metal. "Here, Among Thorns" is dedicated to all of those who seek ultimate Brutality.

Fleshtized's "Here Among Thorns" is now available in the United States through Forever Underground Records. A licensing deal was struck with Mighty Music for the exclusive distribution of this masterpiece in North and South America. Don't miss this devastating and technical slab of brutality.

BEHEADED

BIOGRAPHY

David Bugeja, Chris Brincat and Marcel Scalpello teamed up to form the first Death Metal band in Malta. The first years served the band to establish itself in the local scene and to come up with a steady line-up. It proved to be a difficult task to find the right musicians in a scene that was heavily influenced by rock and speed metal. With members joining and leaving, Beheaded managed to perform several shows and acquire a distinct place in the Maltese scene.

When the line-up problem seemed to be overcome, Beheaded concentrated on releasing a demo tape, with the aim of exposing itself to the foreign Death Metal scene.

Four songs were completed and the demo was recorded in March 1995 with Marcel Scalpello (vocals), David Bugeja and Tyson Fenech (guitars), David Cachia (bass), and Chris Brincat (drums). The demo 'Souldead' scored high points in several underground publications that reviewed it. The main comments underlined the professional quality that the demo boasted; from the great cover artwork and layout, to the individual musical abilities and production in evidence throughout the 23 minutes. A slab of technical and aggressive death metal combined with atmospheric guitar and keyboard passages. In August the same year Omar Grech replaced Tyson Fenech on guitars. Beheaded signed a record deal with Swedish label X-Treme Records to release its debut CD. The songs that were to appear on the CD were recorded in June 1996, but the release was severely delayed due to problems with the cover layout and several other shortcomings. Beheaded took a trip back to the studio late in 1997 to re-master the whole recording again, making the songs sound fresher being the main purpose.

'Perpetual Mockery' was finally released in June 1998, and once again the work was praised by many publications including renowned magazines like UK's Terrorizer. The music in the CD again emphasized on the ingredients highlighted in the demo, this time in the form of better structured songs with a clearly more mature direction.

Beheaded took full advantage of the good contacts acquired within the European scene and set up 14 shows across the Czech Republic and another 2 shows in Germany and Slovakia. These took place during September with great bands like Vader, Dying Fetus, Deranged, Defaced Creation, and Fleshless. On returning back from the successful live debut abroad, Marcel Scalpello left the band for personal reasons and was replaced with Lawrence Joyce.

The songs completed after the release of 'Perpetual Mockery' gradually started to outline a change in musical direction. This was something the band had been after; the need to move onto something different. The new 'less atmospheric' approach has resulted in highly technical and brutal compositions, with lower tuning compared to the material in the previous releases. After bringing to an end their record deal with X-Treme Records, five new songs have been composed and recorded for a promo/demo CD, which was sent out to labels during the early months of 2000. The aim clearly was to secure a new record deal for future releases.

Beheaded have signed a record deal with Danish label Mighty Music, and the first official release will be 'Resurgence of Oblivion' MCD. The MCD will feature the same five tracks used on the promo and will serve to bridge the gap until the full length CD comes out in 2002, once again through Mighty Music.

As of July 2001 Forever Underground Records has reached an agreement with Mighty Music to release Resurgence of Oblivion and the upcoming full length exclusively in North America. "Resurgence of Oblivion" was released by Forever Underground in December of 2001.

On April 1st 2002 Forever Underground released the much anticipated Beheaded "Recounts of Disembodiment" in the US, Canada and Mexico. Recounts… is the best CD Beheaded has done to date. More technical and more brutal than their previous releases. The CD has gotten great reviews all over the world. With this release Beheaded has proved to the world that they are one of the best death metal bands in the world and only get better with time.

INVASION

BIOGRAPHY

Brutal and pulverizing Thrash/Death metal band extolling the time honored virtues of death, destruction and warfare within a musical front. Invasion have launched a precise tactical strike against the complacent metal scene by unleashing a furious devastating bombardment with their new album "Berserk Artillery Barrage". Invasion is comprised of Phlegm - Guitarist/throat slasher vocalist and original founder of this chaotic war driven machine, War Bastard - Blower Bassist, Crusader - Hate fueled drum attack specialist and Tyrant - Flame and fire cohort guitarist.

Originally formed in the fall of 1989, Phlegm and Invasion found all efforts to advance their "Live Barrage" locked in a furious battle with lineup changes and limited rehearsal spots thus leading to the bands demise by the following summer. Lying dormant for almost 7 years Phlegm and Crusader decided to abandon their current projects and again concentrate on Invasion. After contacting War Bastard for the blower bass sound Tyrant was enlisted to replace the MIA guitarist "KC". The plans for attack had now begun.

The invasion sound is immense. Combining the vicious attack of late 80's/early 90's Scandinavian guitar crunch with razor sharp hate-filled vocals, unrelenting drum attacks and bludgeoning guitar tones mixed with straight forward face ripping riffs comprise the sounds of war.

After releasing their debut CD "Conquered" on The Plague (Hammerheart) Invasion decided to leave this label and seek out a new formidable ally. After contacting several labels the decision was made to sign with Forever Underground Records. Now that a new alliance has been forged Invasions second release "Berserk Artillery Barrage" has been unleashed upon the underground. Be prepared for total war!

LEUKORRHEA

BIOGRAPHY

Leukorrhea (lü k* re"*) is a whitish, somewhat thick discharge from the vagina. Normally, vaginal discharge occurs intermittently throughout the menstrual cycle, with a somewhat greater than usual amount during pregnancy. Constant leukorrhea, a change in its consistency, or a greater discharge than usual may be signs of a vaginal or uterine infection, a tumor, or various other gynecological disorders.

In late August of 2000, Adam (guitar), Nate (vocals) and Mike (drums) met through mutual friends and started jamming. Having completed our first song "Humanity's Victim" at the first practice we decided that it would be cool to pursue our music more and began the search for a complete line-up. Leukorrhea was born! Adam approached a friend he had jammed with before, so Bob (guitar) was added to the band. After two months without a bassist, Nick joined the Leukorrhea camp. With three song's previously written before Nick joined, we started writing material as a complete unit.

In December 2000 Leukorrhea released a very rough 3-song demo titled "Hymns Of The Rotting". Although the quality was very low the demo was reviewed positively in zines/webzines.

In May of 2001 Leukorrhea was approached by Forever Underground Records and came upon a record deal to release our debut CD. In August of 2001 Leukorrhea's debut CD "Hatefucked and Tortured" was released on Forever Underground Records. Containing 9 tracks of violence laden death metal.
